چکیده

The microstructures of as-cast and heat-treated Co-Cr-Mo with addition of C, Si and Mn have been investigated with a focus on phase and dissolution of precipitates. The heat treatment temperatures and heating periods employed ranged from 1448 to 1548 K and 0 to 43.2 ks, respectively. The precipitates observed in the as-cast and heat-treated alloys were carbides (M23C6, eta-phase, and pi-phase) and an intermetallic compound of chi-phase. Chi-phase was detected in the sample with lowest carbon content of this study, 0.15 wt%. The addition of Si seemed to increase the heating time for complete precipitate dissolution because of the effects of Si on the promotion of pi-phase formation at high temperatures and the increased carbon activity in the Co matrix. After polarization test in simulated body fluid to the single phasecontained specimens, it showed that chi-phase drastically decreased the corrosion resistance of the alloy. The alloys with chi-phase and M23C6 precipitates have lower corrosion resistance than those with pi-phase.

Electron Beam Melted (EBM) Co-Cr-Mo Alloy for Orthopaedic Implant Applications

The Electron Beam Melting (EBM) manufacturing process is emerging as an additional method for producing orthopaedic devices in several materials, including Co-Cr-Mo Alloy. This work presents the chemical, microstructural and mechanical properties of several test specimens produced by the EBM process before and after a post‐EBM Heat treatment. Comparisons are made to the properties of Co-Cr-Mo m...

Atom-probe Analysis of Zircaloy

Zirconium based alloys in the Zircaloy series have been analysed with atom-probe field-ion microscopy. During specimen preparation an anodic layer is formed, containing about 50% oxygen. In preliminary analyses of the matrix al1 the minor elements Fe, Ni, Cr and O were detected, and it appears possible to determine with the atom-probe whether any particular heat treatment causes matrix depletio...

Grain Boundary Oxidation and the Chromium- Depletion Theory of Intercrystalline Corrosion of Austenitic Stainless Steels

High temperature microscopy during oxidation of austenitic stainless steels shows that an increased rate of oxidation is found in a narrow zone along grain boundaries where chromium carbides have been precipitated. This lends support to the chromium-depletion theory of intercrystatline corrosion of these steels. Approximate solution of the appropriate diffusion problem shows good agreement with...

Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys Casting Problems

Aluminum castings have played an integral role in the growth of the aluminum industry since its inception in the late 19th century. The first commercial aluminum products were castings, such as cooking utensils and decorative parts, which exploited the novelty and utility of the new metal. Those early applications rapidly expanded to address the requirements of a wide range of engineering speci...

Gains from diversification on convex combinations: A majorization and stochastic dominance approach

By incorporating both majorization theory and stochastic dominance theory, this paper presents a general theory and a unifying framework for determining the diversification preferences of risk-averse investors and conditions under which they would unanimously judge a particular asset to be superior. In particular, we develop a theory for comparing the preferences of different convex combination...
